We Carmelites
We Carmelites
We are a religious order within the Catholic Church which began at the beginning of the 12th century on Mount Carmel. The prophet Elijah and Mary, the Mother of God, were models of following Christ for the brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, who received their Rule from the Patriarch Albert of Jerusalem at the beginning of the 13th century.
St. Teresa of Ávila and St. John of the Cross reformed and renewed our community in the 16th century. We see our mission as fostering the contemplative life and showing people the way to friendship with God.
The Carmelite saints are also of help to us and examples: St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Bl. Elisabeth of the Trinity, St. Edith Stein and many others.
